Gothic art originated around 1140 in the Ile-de-France and from there spread throughout Europe. The new style was not confined to sacral art and architecture, but increasingly invaded secular and private spheres. This book describes the development of Gothic in all its diversity. Special contributions on, for example urban development or technical knowledge, complete the overview of this period.
